28.7x36.2 in ~ Painting, Charcoal, Oil, Pigments
History of the canvas: the canvas was made after returning from a trip to siena in 2002. The Palio of Siena is represented at sunset in shades of yellow, yellow ocher, sienna, red ocher, earth of Siena burnt. The outlines of the buildings are engraved in the very material of the paint and pigments, revealing the luminous yellow of the background. Charcoal lines highlight the structure of some buildings. The shadows are done in a dark ultramarine blue in pure pigments. Touches of clear white punctuate the work. The blue of the sky is illuminated by a solar orange-yellow pigment.
